We have two sides to our nature. Firstly, as a component of an immortal entity, when our body dies, we go up into a far vaster spirit world, even many times greater the immense physical universe which we are able to probe now with our radio telescopes and cameras. Secondly, while at the moment we are confined to the mind coming through the limited capacity of our physical brain, pmce the body dies, we return to the far greater state of consciousness which is our ''God-self'' or soul. Although at first we may stay with the individual identity we built up while on earth, so that we can be recognised by our former friends and relatives, and be identified if we communicate by those we have left behind on earth, eventually we will move on and join our great soul group, and move away from the earth vibration, until perhaps we want to come back for a further incarnation.
So we will most likely become a far more intelligent and omniscient personality than we could possibly have been on earth. We will operate on several levels of body and mind simultaneously, incomprehensible to us now !
Our religions have given us different aspects of this greater mind, and we can study different aspects of it if we read and compare the sayings of our prophets, saints and sages down through the ages, and in modern times, listen to some of the entities coming through various trance mediums, such as Seth from Jane Roberts, Agasha from Richard Slocum Zenor, Yada from Mark Probert, Ramtha from J.Z. Knight, Ramala through David Jevons, Lazaris from Jach Pursel, ,Gildas through Ruth White, Michael through several mediums and many others. So this greater state of consciousness or spirit mind of our own, like a Seth or Michael, will accompany us when we live in the spirit world. Since each of us has different interests and levels of understanding, not one of us will have identical states and qualities of consciousness, so we can do little here beyond offering the advice to the reader to look within his or her own mind, and examine what is to be found there.
With regard to the Spirit World itself, several descriptions of the hereafter have been presented in our series on the Spirit World, and here I will provide, as promised in the previous article, a short-list of recommended titles providing an evidential introduction to the world beyond. By evidential I mean to say, the descriptions come from so-called dead people, known personally to the witness or sitter listening to the account.
So here is a list of the best books about life after death, at least in its initial stages. This list would provide a good introduction to the subject for school or college classes and for adult courses in church or night school. After that, interested readers might like to consult a good medium privately or attend public meetings given by clairvoyants. After that, I would recommend a study of the history findings and conclusions, so far, of Psychical Research.
Good spiritualist libraries should contain most of the titles, but new and used copies are to be found on internet sites such as www.bookfinder.com or at most booksellers. I have listed the title and author only, since in some cases there have been several editions by different publishers. The date of first publication is given, if known. If I were to start with only four books, I would choose those titles marked with an asterisk, two from the U.S.A. and two from the U.K.
