China targets 70 GW of solar by 2017
WHY IS THIS TECHNOLOGY NOT BEING UTILISED ON A MASS-SCALE FOR CIVILIAN USE IN WESTERN COUNTRIES?
Article from: The Daily Courier - April 15th, 2002
‘’After years of research and development, officials with a solar energy company that manufactures INEXPENSIVE FLEXIBLE SOLAR CELLS say they’re closing in on supplying commercial markets with the high-tech, think-film devices.
Global Solar Energy Inc, hopes to reach a goal of full-scale production by year’s end.
The company’s product could displace existing solar technologies like rigid, heavy silicon devices.
‘’I’m very confident we are very close, probably one to one-and-a-half years from having a product competitive with mainstream silicon technology,’’ Global Vice-President Dick Damron said.
Tucson City Councilman Fred Ronstadt said local applications of Global Solar’s material could include the new service center police station and other down-town development projects, producing electricity while shading cars at a new parking facility replacing the City Hall Annex and making Davis-Monthan Air Force Base more energy self-sufficient.
Damon said improving Global Solar’s manufacturing process and adding production equipment has allowed increased speed and consistency when producing the photovoltaic solar devices.
Global Solar’s material produces electricity when sunlight passes through the top layer of indium tin oxide and strikes the middle two layers of cadmium sulphide and copper indium gallium deselenide, producing electricity. The tope layer and bottom molybdenum layer conduct the current produced by the middle two layers.
The material’s advantages over conventional silicon solar panels include flexibility, light weight and durability, Damron said.
Most of Global Solar’s current production is contracted to military agencies for testing.
The solar devices can be made to fold into small, lightweight packages carried by soldiers, and then unfolded in sunlight to recharge batteries in the field.
Using rechargeable batteries reduces the number of batteries needed, cutting pounds from a soldier’s pack, Damron said.
Global Solar spokesman Jay Gonzales said the company's price goal for the consumer market is in the range of $3 per watt of generating capacity. An average residence has a peak summer demand of 4,000 watts, or 4 kilowatts.’’
ARE THE VENTURE CAPITALISTS WHO OWN THE OIL, GAS & TECH INDUSTRIES INFILTRATING THE CHEAPER, CLEANER, AND MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT SOLAR ENERGY MARKETS FOR THE GREATER GOOD - OR ARE THEY IN IT FOR PERSONAL PROFIT?

venture capital (VC) funding into the solar energy sector in the second quarter of 2014 increased 72% to $432 million in 21 deals, from $251 million in 26 deals in the first quarter of the year, according to a report by Mercom Capital Group, a global clean energy communications and consulting firm.’’ - Jul 14, 2014
WHY ARE THE VENTURE CAPITALS NOT INTERESTED IN CHINA’S CHEAP SOLAR PANEL INDUSTRY WHICH IT WANTS TO GIVE TO THE WEST TO SOLVE IT’S INCREASING ENERGY DEMANDS?
US to levy fresh tariffs of up to 35% on Chinese Solar Panels
By Ed Crooks in New York (June 4th, 2014)
‘’Beijing said the US had “ignored the facts” as it responded on Wednesday to US plans to impose additional import duties of up to 35.2 per cent on Chinese-made solar panels in an escalation of the trade war in the industry that began in 2012.
The US department of commerce announced on Tuesday that following an investigation it had made a preliminary finding that photovoltaic solar components imported from China were being subsidised in a way that damaged US-based manufacturers.’’ (Oil, Gas and Fracking! Ed)
‘’The US In February took India to the World Trade Organisation, arguing that New Delhi’s requirement for solar energy producers to use domestically produced solar cells violated global trade rules.’’ (US monopoly! Ed)
‘’Generators and installers that use imported panels warn that duties would make solar power in the US more expensive and slow its expansion at a time when it is becoming increasingly competitive with fossil fuels.’’
RT NEWS - June 4, 2014
Beijing retaliated to US duties by imposing its own tariffs of up to 57 percent on imports of polysilicon- a type of silicon from the US used to make solar cells.

‘’The decision by the U.S. Department of Commerce to impose steep tariffs on solar cell imports from China and Taiwan has some industry groups crying foul and warning it may adversely affect consumers and businesses as prices rise.’’
"Enough is enough," Rhone Resch, CEO of the U.S.-based Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), wrote in a statement. "The Department of Commerce continues to rely on an overly broad scope [of] definition for subject imports from China, adversely impacting both American consumers and the vast majority of the U.S. solar industry.”
